Privacy Policy

As a “Network Entertainment Company” for the future generation, we at Dwango Co.,Ltd. (“Dwango” “we” “us” or “our”) are always thinking about the future of communication. In order to make our visions a reality, we shall recognize that it is our social responsibility to appropriately protect the personal information of our customers and our employees, and shall follow the guidelines of this Privacy Policy.

Management System for the Protection of Personal Information

Chairman of the Risk Management Committee will be appointed as a responsible person for managing personal information. According to the responsibilities, we shall establish a management system centering on the “Risk Management Committee.” We shall prepare the concrete company rules regarding the standards and operations of appropriate acquisition, utilization and provision of personal information as well as conduct education and awareness building activities internally. All officers and employees at Dwango may handle personal information in accordance with the company rules.

We shall estblish reasonable safety measures to prevent and correct leakage, illegal access, data alteration, and loss of personal information.

Handling of Personal Information

1. Acquisition of Personal/User Information

For the purpose of providing services of Dwango (“Services”), we may collect personal information such as your name, address, date of birth, phone number, e-mail address, and bank account information (Information that corresponds to the personal information definitions detailed in Article 2 Section 1 of the Act concerning Protection of Personal Information, “the Act”). We may also collect the following user-provided information and automatically collected information (Collectively “User Information”).

The following information may be collected in case that you give our Application your permission to work in partnership with external services. Only the contents you have granted permission to access may be collected.

  • Your ID or other user information you use for external services
  • The information you have disclosed to the external service in accordance with their privacy settings.

The following information related to your access conditions or utilization of our Services may be collected.

  • Your device identification
  • Communication history
  • History of services you have used, pages and advertisements you have viewed, etc.

2. Purpose of Use

We shall make clear the purposes of collecting your personal and user information and not use it without the scope of the purpose. Your Personal and User Information may be used for purposes none other that the ones listed below.

  • For the proper use and operation of our Services

4. Provision of Personal Information to the Third Parties

As a general rule, we shall never without your consent disclose or share your personal information with others. However, in the following cases, we may disclose or share your information.

  • Cases in which the provision of personal data is based on laws and regulations
  • Cases in which we entrust the handling of personal data in whole or in part within the scope necessary for the achievement of the Purpose of Use
  • Cases in which the handling of personal information is necessary for the protection of the life, body, or property of an individual and in which it is difficult to obtain the consent of the person
  • Cases in which the handling of personal information is specially necessary for improving public health or promoting the sound growth of children and in which it is difficult to obtain the consent of the person
  • Cases in which the provision of personal data is necessary for cooperating with a state institution, a local public body, or an individual or entity entrusted by one in executing the operations prescribed by laws and in which obtaining the consent of the person might impede the execution of the operations concerned
  • Cases in which you have agreed to the User Agreements of our Services

5. Business Commissions

In order to provide our Services and products, business that includes the handling of personal information may be entrusted within the scope of necessary minimum to trustees. In these cases, we shall take appropriate control and hold supervision, as well as establish a formal contract, in order to prevent unauthorized disclosures and leakage of data from trustees. We ask for your understanding in advance that our trustees may contact to you in cases where there are unavoidable circumstances.

6. Limitation of Liability

In order to prevent leakage of personal information, we shall appropriately conduct operation of our Services according to the laws and regulations, unless otherwise following cases in which trouble will be occurred by the third party’s acquisition of the information.

  • In cases where you, the customer, use our Services or any other method to reveal your own personal information to other customers by yourself
  • In cases where you are accidentally identified through information inputted by other customers
  • Accidents of data leakage and/or unauthorized disclosures in which we hold no faults

7. Disclosure of Personal Information

When we are requested to make a disclosure of your own personal information pursuant to the Act, we shall take the necessary procedures to verify your identity and make sure that you are the one requesting the actions, and then without further delay disclose your case (If your requested information does not exist, we will inform you of the result), unless we have no obligation of the disclosure according to the Act and/or other regulations..

8. Correction of Personal Information, etc.

When you are requested by you to correct, add, or delete your personal information pursuant to the Act on the ground that the retained personal data is contrary to the fact, , we shall examine the case within the scope necessary for the achievement of the Purpose of Use, make the appropriate corrections based on the results, and you will be notified once the corrections have been made (If it is decided that no corrections will be made, you shall be notified of this decision as well), unless we have no obligation of the disclosure according to the Act, provided that we shall take the necessary procedures to verify that you are the one requesting the actions.

9. Suspension of Use of Personal Information

When we are requested by you to stop using, to suspend or to erase (“Suspension” “Suspend”) your personal information, on the ground that the information is handled in excess of the scope necessary for achieving the Purpose of Use previously disclosed and/or that the information was obtained through improper means,, and it is found that the request has a reason, we will without further delay suspend the use of your personal information and notify you of our actions, unless we have no obligation of the disclosure according to the Act, provided that we shall take the necessary procedures to verify that you are the one requesting the actions.

If a representative is making your request, we ask you to submit documents to prove that he/she has the right of representation.
